Australia Zoo

This is the home of Steve Irwin, also known as the Crocodile Hunter. Reptile lovers will love this place -- others may prefer to visit Currimbin. Heaps of crocodiles, snakes, lizards everywhere. The place used to be known as the Reptile park, and it still is 90% reptiles. This is the best place for you to get a photo of yourself holding a python (YOU are the one holding the whole snake!)
There are shows throughout the day, and the most popular would be the crocodile feeding.
However, there are large plans to expand the zoo, so it can truly become AUSTRALIA Zoo. The old enclosures are being demolished, and new enclosures are being built. The largest building to date is a large eating hall/auditorium/picture theatre/giftshop/museum/office complex. However, the first thoughts are towards the animals.
I heard a visitor ask "Why have the wombats got such a large enclosure?" The reply was that "Steve (Irwin) wants plenty of room for all of the animals in the zoo."
At this point of time, there are mainly Australian animals, but part of the master plan would be to house rare animals from all around the world.
There are cafes, 2 x giftshops, picnic areas, toilets etc. There also is alot of construction going on, but to me that usually signals new and better things to come in the near future.
